01
Content and assets
What's included in the content library?
Hundreds of AR items: armor sets, weapons, masks, tattoos, accessories, effects, post-processing tools, and backgrounds.
Can I upload my own assets?
Yes. You can add your own 2D items and effects, as long as you have permission to use them. That covers your own art, work you commissioned from an artist, and assets you licensed, if the licence allows use in Faes AR.
Your uploads stay on the computer where you added them. We never receive them, so we can't back them up or recover them.
Does Faes AR use AI-generated assets?
Assets in the library are made by artists. We do not use generative AI to create them.
02
Your licence and updates
What am I buying?
A one-time licence for Faes AR. It's a desktop app that adds digital costumes, effects, and backgrounds to your live webcam feed. It sends that feed through a virtual camera to Discord, Zoom, Google Meet, OBS, or any app that accepts a camera input.
Your licence includes the content library that comes with your version, plus any updates we release. Some content, such as publisher packs, may be sold separately. There is no subscription and no recurring fee.
Individual items may occasionally change or be removed for legal or rights reasons, such as a rights claim.
Will I have to buy the app again later?
No. Your licence has no end date, and there's no charge to keep using the version you bought. The app needs to sign in to our servers every 30 days.
Can I install it on more than one computer?
Yes. There's no fixed limit on computers you own or control. Sign-ins from an unusual number of computers may be treated as sharing the app, which can lead to your account being suspended.
How do updates work?
Faes AR updates from inside the app. When an update is available, a notice appears in the bottom-right corner. Click it to install the update, whenever suits you. The Download page is only for your first install. We announce updates by email and on our Discord.
Can I get a refund if I don't accept the licence agreement?
Yes. The End User Licence Agreement is on our Legal page before you buy, and you must accept it when you install. If you don't accept it, request a refund from the store where you bought Faes AR. If the store doesn't refund you, email support@faes.ar.

Setup and privacy
How do I get started after buying?
- Download Faes AR from the Download page and install it. You'll accept the licence agreement during install.
- Create an account and enter the licence key from your purchase.
- Open the app and turn on your camera. The Biometric Notice appears before the camera starts.
- Build a character from the library and save it as a preset.
- In Discord, Zoom, OBS, or Google Meet, select Faes AR Virtual Camera as your camera.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 and 11, and macOS 12 or later, on Intel and Apple Silicon. Download options are on the Download page.
- Processor: Windows: Intel Core i5 (7th generation) or better. Mac: 2017 Intel Mac or newer.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Storage: 1 GB minimum for assets, 10 GB recommended
- Webcam: 720p (1280 × 720)
Do I need an internet connection?
Only to sign in. You need an internet connection to create your account and download your assets. After that, Faes AR plays offline. Every 30 days, the app asks you to sign in again to confirm ownership of your assets, and may not start until you do.
On a new computer, sign in and download your assets again. Your uploads and presets stay on the computer where you made them.
Does Faes AR record or upload my face?
No. Face tracking runs on your computer to place items on your face. We do not collect, store, or transmit face tracking data, and we don't receive your video. Before your camera first turns on, the app shows the Biometric Notice and asks for your consent.
What gets installed on my computer?
The Faes AR app and a virtual camera driver. The driver is a system-level device that lets other apps see Faes AR as a camera. On Windows, the Faes AR Installer offers the camera during setup. On macOS, the camera is a separate download. Removal instructions are on the Download page.
Some apps may block or limit virtual cameras. That's their decision, and we can't control it.
Is there a minimum age?
You must have reached the age of majority where you live to create an account. You may let your child use your copy if they're 14 or older. If you do, you accept the terms and the Biometric Notice on their behalf.
Where are the legal terms?
The End User Licence Agreement, Asset Licence Terms, Privacy Policy, Biometric Notice, Acceptable Use Policy, and Refund Policy are on the Legal page. If this FAQ and the End User Licence Agreement differ, the agreement applies.
